Grills will be sizzling, blenders will be whirring and kettle korn will be popping when the Mountain View Art & Wine Festival turns Castro Street into an international smorgasbord of tasty fare September 12-13 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The Mountain View Kiwanis Club will do their town proud with plump Polish sausages and golden corn hot off the grill. Lockeford Meat & Sausage Company will feature Dakota smoked bratwurst, named after the style of sausages made by Russian and German settlers in the Dakotas. The blend of turkey, pork and beef comes on a hoagie roll with onions and sauerkraut. Uhuru Concessions is famous for its Louisiana sausages piled high with grilled peppers and onions on a hoagie. They’re also known for garlic fries and, yes, deep-fried, batter-dipped Twinkies adorned with powdered sugar and berry or chocolate syrup. If that’s a bit beyond your calorie budget, they also offer herbal iced teas and green teas. The nationwide Uhuru Movement works toward economic development and social justice for the African community in the U.S. and worldwide.

But what spells summer better than c-o-r-n? Moon River Corn Company makes the most of the season by buying corn direct from local growers, roasting it in the husk, and serving it with butter or lemon pepper butter.  Their meal-sized baked potatoes come with toppings ranging from old-fashioned sour cream and chives to cheddar cheese and tomatoes. Nachos fans will enjoy their tortilla chips simply smothered in cheese or piled even higher with tomatoes, sour cream, guacamole and jalapeños.

For a taste of Armenia, check out the kebabs put together by the Trex Fraternity. They form ground lamb and beef around a skewer and grill it over hot coals, then wrap it in a soft lavash flatbread with onions, tomatoes and parsley. If you prefer chicken or pork kabobs, head over to California BBQ, where they’ll also be grilling up tender teriyaki chicken for rice bowls and sandwiches. At Earthly Delights, it’s all about big, bold flavors. Their sandwiches include Italian garlic chicken with sautéed red peppers and onions; Cajun barbecue chicken with authentic Louisiana sauce; spicy Thai peanut chicken; and slow-cooked barbecue pork. And their Parmesan garlic fries add yet another tantalizing combination of tastes. Thai food aficionados will appreciate the subtle flavors of thinly sliced chicken and pork in the kabobs at Thai Stick. Their chicken also comes over rice with salad or in a spinach tortilla wrap. Oriental Cuisine Express does Asian chicken three ways: in a teriyaki chicken rice bowl; battered and fried with an orange sauce and served with fried rice and chow mein; or in a Chinese chicken salad with crispy rice noodles and soy-honey-wasabi sauce. Take a quick trip to France at Lemoine Crêperie, where you’ll find traditional Breton crêpes with savory fillings including cheese, spinach, ham and bacon. Or opt for dessert crêpes with strawberries, cherries, peaches, whipped cream or the addictive hazelnut spread, Nutella. Craving seafood? The Fish Market Restaurants of Palo Alto and Santa Clara will offer cocktails of the small, sweet bay shrimp from Canada, creamy New England clam chowder, and irresistible calamari fritti. Sonoma Teriyaki will fry up prawns, fish and calamari, as well as garlic fries. Fried calamari cognoscenti can try yet another variety at Willow Street, where they also turn out crispy fried zucchini and artichokes. Pizza purists will have their choice of cheese and pepperoni slices from a couple of local pizzerias. Amici’s pizzas have an authentic East Coast thin crust, while Frankie, Johnnie & Luigi, Too roll theirs out a little thicker in a classic Italian interpretation.

A street fair without popcorn is like a day without sunshine, so Olde Tyme and Suitcase Ron’s will take care of everyone’s kettle korn kravings. And because that sunshine in early September will certainly heat up the street, there will be numerous options for refreshing—and downright freezing—treats. Maui Waui Smoothies takes the healthy road by blending nonfat yogurt with bananas and your choice of freshly puréed strawberry, mango-orange or pineapple-coconut. WOOF Frozen Fantasies (raising funds to benefit trained rescue dogs) makes their smoothies with soy milk and bananas, offering additions including strawberries, mixed berries, peaches, pineapple and mango. Chocolate-dipped fruit kebobs and ice cream bars will also be on the menu.

For a zero-fat dessert visit Hawaiian Snow Shave Ice, where authentic flavors from Hawaii include strawberry, lime, mango, cherry, bubble gum, pineapple and blue raspberry. Not worried about fat? They also have root beer floats and ice cream bars. Lyman’s Waffle Cone will offer a multitude of sweet, cooling drinks, from smoothies and shakes to root beer floats and frozen lemonade. Traditionalists can go to the Baskin Robbins booth for a scoop of vanilla, chocolate, mint chocolate chip, mocha almond fudge, or rainbow sherbet in a waffle cone . . . or the ever-popular root beer float. Barrett's Lemonade uses freshly squeezed lemon juice to make both regular and diet hand-shaken lemonade, as well as their newest offering—strawberry lemonade.

Refreshments are always a must for a day of strolling and shopping. The Mountain View Library Foundation has a delicious slushie-like soft frozen lemonade that’s been a hit for years. Barrett’s offers both regular and diet hand-shaken lemonade. And Orange Mint has its mysteriously magical frothy orange drink.
