The streets of downtown Millbrae will morph into the Bay Area’s hottest music venue as top rock and roll cover bands take center stage at the Millbrae Art & Wine Festival, September 5-6 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Broadway. These top-notch bands will deliver all your favorite tunes, from R&B legends like Marvin Gaye and Jeffrey Osbourne to classic rock bands like Van Morrison, Bad Company and the Rolling Stones. An all-woman tribute band brings their interpretation of Led Zeppelin, and there will even be a visit from the King of Rock and Roll himself, Elvis Presley, that promises to blow you away.
The King of Rock and Roll lives on with Rick Lenzi and Roustabout. Lead singer Rick Lenzi has made his impersonation of Elvis Presley his life’s work, and for the last 15 years he has worked hard to capture every nuanced grin, every pelvic shake, every deep, velvety croon that made Elvis “The King” and bring it all to his devoted fans. Lenzi has captured the look and personality of Elvis in every era, from the boyish heartthrob spinning 1950’s tunes like “Love Me Tender” and “Hound Dog” to the rhinestone jumpsuit Elvis of the 1970’s with songs like “Suspicious Minds.” Lenzi is backed by a solid set of musicians, with Angello “The Hammer” Cappello on guitar and keyboard, Archie Maxwell on guitar, Chris “Deuce” Connally on Bass, “Dynamite” David Marshall on drums, and Tammy “B.U.G.S.” Stockley on background vocals. It’s a blast to the past dance party you won’t want to miss.
Zepparella recreates the music of Led Zeppelin like you’ve never heard it before. These four powerful women of rock deliver an explosive, emotional musical journey at every event. The band embraces the challenge of staying true to the spirit of Led Zeppelin while bringing in their own musical interpretations and personal connection to the audience. Vocalist Anna Kristina brings her seductive style and powerful range to the front of the band with consistently transcendent performances and soulful delivery. Gretchen Menn applies her dazzling and emotive guitar playing and takes on the lines of Led Zeppelin guitarist Jimmy Page with an arresting ability that can’t be beat. Nila Minnerock’s dark, beautiful, aggressive and melodic bass playing fills out the bottom end of the band, while Clementine tackles the best rock drumming every written with her own powerfully passionate style, bringing the Motown influence of the Bonham groove to the forefront. Nila and Clementine have played together for the last eleven years in the metal band BOTTOM, and their close to 20 trips together around the US, Canada and Europe as well as three records have created the remarkably intuitive rhythm section that Zeppelin deserves. All together, they create a magical musical experience that takes the audience along for the ride.

The Best Intentions are five talented vocalists –– Jeffrey Bashir, Rodney James, Bilal M., Charles Barksdale, and Ray Ragler –– who capture the spirit of Motown from the 60’s, 70’s, and 80’s, featuring their own renditions of the greats like Smokey Robinson and the Miracles, the Four Tops, Gladys Knight and the Pips, Marvin Gaye and the Temptations. These five gentlemen have more than 40 years combined experience in the music and entertainment industry. Throughout their careers they have performed with such greats as the Natural Four, the Temptations, James Brown, Zakiah Hooker, Rod Stewart, and many more. Their clean look, smooth choreography, strong solo singing and tight vocal harmonies will bring you back to the glory days of Motown, and their powerful show will have you on your feet and dancing to those fabulous golden oldies.
Stop by and listen to the best of R&B with The Reed Fromer Band. These talented musicians deliver a repertoire of exciting, danceable R&B/funk tunes and beautiful, moving rock and soul ballads from the legends, like Stevie Wonder, Chaka Kahn and Rufus, Michael Jackson, B.B. King, and the Doobie Brothers. Lead vocalist and keyboardist Reed Fromer is an amazingly powerful singer, whose vocal style and range inspires comparisons with Kenny Loggins, Michael McDonald and James Taylor, while bassist Artie Wafer drives the band’s sound just like Verdeen White of Earth Wind & Fire. Drummer Tony Langford honed his skillful chops backing some of Motown’s biggest stars, like Martha Reeves, the Spinners, the Enchantment, and Eddie Kendricks while he was still in his teens. Add time-tested guitarists Ralph Nelson and Bobby Young for an authentic sound you won’t want to miss.
Bring out your dancing shoes and get ready to rock with Brother Buzz. These guys have been rockin’ the San Francisco Bay Area for more than 15 years and consistently get high marks for energy and enthusiasm, but mostly for being just plain fun. Tight but not too tight, they lay down the best of America’s roots music, rock and roll, R&B, blues and funk, from the Allman Brothers to ZZ Top. The versatility of Brother Buzz starts with Rockin’ Roy McKinney’s poppin’ backbeat and his ability to sing rock, blues, and funk with soul to the bone. Jumpin’ John Hall’s guitar playing is steeped in the tradition of players like Chuck Berry, Eric Clapton, and B.B. King as well as modern blues players like Stevie Ray Vaughn and Robben Ford. Bob Noto does triple duty on guitar, bass and drums and is as comfortable laying down a swingin’ jazz accompaniment as he is playing rock or blues through his Fender Super Reverb, while Tommy “in the pocket” McManus is a distinctive bass player and soulful singer.
The guys from the band San Franz are ready to rock! Drawing their influence from classic rock bands like the Steve Miller Band, Bad Company, Journey and others, San Franz has the tight guitar, driving bass and drums, and strong vocals to deliver all your favorite rock and roll hits. Lead singer Kevin Finnesey can make any genre of music sound and feel natural, from the golden oldies to modern hard rock. He can recreate the characteristic sound of a familiar hit with confidence and isn’t afraid to try something new. Michael Manke has focused his musical studies on the bass guitar for the last seven years and is always looking for new sounds and dimensions to add to his playing. Drummer Travis Abel trained at the Berklee College of Music and his unparalleled rhythmic tenacity adds a characteristic energy to every song. Guitarist Trevor Paul also studied at the Berklee, where he achieved dual majors in recording and performance. He has never stopped refining his sound and brings his ever-growing skill and passion to each performance.
The great music isn’t limited to the stage. Stop to listen to talented street musicians as you stroll through the festival. The Emerson Growiser Band has created their own rendition of original rhythm and blues. Solid keyboard playing and a voice somewhere between Sam Cook and David Bowie give Emerson Growiser’s special blend of soft jazz, blues and funk its unique sound, what some have called “Moody Blues with heart and soul.” Take a musical journey to old Italy with Heartstrings Music, featuring Al Fabrizio on mandolin and Hugo Wainzinger on guitar. The pair plays romantic, easy listening, Italian melodies including tarantellas, polkas and traditional ethnic heartfelt ballads. Wind player Laura Bryant and keyboardist Max Gutierrez combine their talents in Dreamroad. Their original compositions hail from their diverse cultural heritages and performance experiences, and the music is both melodic and spiritual with a rhythmic sensibility reminiscent of world-beat.
