Menlo Park's 23rd Annual Mid-Summer Festival of the Arts


WHAT:  

Glass art boothConnoisseurs’ Marketplace, this vibrant, open-air festival of the arts celebrates the best of summer in style with live jazz, r&b, and rock 'n roll music, a juried show with fine art and one-of-a-kind crafts by 250 of America's top artists, seasonal cooking demos for the home chef at epicurean purveyor Draeger’s, food tasting and samples in Organic Alley, festive food and drink with premium wines, microbrews and margaritas, street performers, free hand massages, product demos and samples in Burt's Bees Bee-Utify Your World "hive", and the captivating kids' fun zone with fun, games and amusements. Admission is free. Presented by the Menlo Park Chamber of Commerce.

Live Music ... an eclectic, fun-filled mix of rock & roll, r&b, pop, jazz, folk, and soul music on stage and street. The free Saturday “After-Hours Concert” will feature Double Funk Crunch, one of the Bay Area's top party bands known for their fun, danceable 70's and 80's pop music in Fremont Park. Also performing are The Groove Kings, The Megatones, The Garage Band, California Beach Boys, The CoverGrrlz, The Woogie Men, HeartStrings Music, Aryeh Frankfurter, and Dreamroad.

Fine Art, Unique Crafts ... meet and buy direct from 250 of America’s finest artists and craftmakers exhibiting their latest handcrafted work in ceramics, glass, fine art, photography, sculpture, jewelry, leather, textiles, metal and wood.

Flavorful Festive Food & Drink ... Philly cheese steaks, falafel sandwiches, gyros, chicken and sausage jambalaya, seafood gumbo, spicy crawfish étoufée, blackened shrimp, crispy fried calamari with cilantro-lime sauce, barbecued oysters, crab cakes, tri-tip and portobello mushroom sandwiches, garlic fries, stuffed mushrooms, Hawaiian shredded pork sandwiches, teriyaki beef and chicken over rice, smoked bratwurst and Polish dogs, Salvadoran pupusas, fish tacos, fish and chips, Caesar salad, garlic chicken and pork kabobs, chicken wraps, kettle corn, frozen yogurt, sorbet, and fresh-squeezed lemonade.

Cooking Demos ... Chef Instructors from renowned epicurean purveyor Draeger's will conduct cooking demos from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. each day at their Menlo Park store, 1010 University Avenue, in the Cooking School. Subjects include how to make an Heirloom Tomato Gazpacho with Basil Oil and Thai Brown Rice Salad with Citrus Vinaigrette. Demos will be 30-minutes in length starting at the top of each hour with free samples at the conclusion.

Kids’ Fun Zone ... create-your-own colorful wax hands art, virtual reality motion theater, cool temporary tattoos, whimsical sand sculptures, balloon artists, clowns, face painting, inflatible bounces, the tummy-tickling Froghopper ride, a 24-foot climbing wall, and train rides.

July 18-19, 2009. Hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. The “After-Hours Concert” featuring Double Funk Crunch runs from 5:30-8 p.m. on July 18 in Fremont Park.
